Marrakech hits all your senses at once: the scent of spices drifting from open stalls, the sound of call to prayer echoing over terracotta rooftops, the colour of handwoven carpets stacked floor to ceiling. It's chaotic, beautiful, and utterly unforgettable.

The Medina Souks

Getting lost in the medina is not just expected, it's the whole point. Narrow alleyways twist and turn through souks dedicated to leather, metals, textiles and ceramics. We bargained for lanterns, watched artisans hammer copper into intricate patterns, and sipped mint tea with shopkeepers who became friends within minutes.

Pro tip: put your phone away and follow your nose. The best discoveries happen when you stop trying to find your way.

Jemaa el-Fna by Night

As the sun sets, the main square transforms into the world's largest open-air restaurant and theatre. Snake charmers, storytellers, musicians and food stalls appear as if by magic. We sat on a rooftop terrace overlooking the chaos below, eating lamb tagine with prunes while the square came alive beneath us.

Our favourite part

The moment the orange juice vendors lit their lanterns and the whole square shimmered with warm light. We sat on the ground, drank fresh pomegranate juice, and just watched the world go by. Timeless.

Hot Air Balloon Over the Atlas

We woke before dawn for a balloon ride over the desert and Atlas foothills. Floating silently above the reddish landscape as the first rays of sun painted the mountains gold was the most peaceful experience of the entire trip. Landing in a Berber village for traditional breakfast afterward made it perfect.

Majorelle Garden & the Medina Palaces

The electric blue walls of Majorelle Garden are every bit as vivid as the photos suggest. Yves Saint Laurent's legacy is a tranquil oasis of cacti, bamboo and fountains. We also explored the Bahia Palace with its intricate tilework and the quiet Saadian Tombs, hidden for centuries behind a wall.

Final Thoughts

Marrakech is not a city you observe, it's one you dive into headfirst. It overwhelmed us, enchanted us, and left us craving more. The combination of ancient culture, incredible food and warm hospitality makes it one of the most special places we've ever visited. We'll be back.
